In stark contrast to most independently produced material, FOLK LORE was shot in 1080(Lines of Resolution) progressive High Definition. Utilizing the same technology as productions like Michael Mann’s COLLATERAL and David Fincher’s forthcoming ZODIAC, FOLK LORE employed a 100% digital “tape less” format. High Definition footage was directly captured into an Apple G5 PowerMac via Final Cut ProHD and archived on external terabyte hard drives. This allowed the Folk Lore production team to immediately view any footage shot on set in full High Definition, both increasing the quality and efficiency of all shots produced.
Folk Lore was shot on location in the beautiful state of Michigan, over three distinct and geographically separated counties. Grand Traverse County and Northwestern Michigan College played host to many of the interior and city shots used in the production. The Brown Bridge quiet area was also extensively shot. Marquette County was utilized for the beautiful Black Rock falls, as well as the enchanting Little Presque Isle and Lake Superior shoreline. The historic town of Calumet graciously offered the use of it’s turn of the century buildings for the backdrop to Folk Lore’s compelling conclusion, as well as providing rough, mountainous terrain for the protagonists journey through the narrative.
